The Sistema Fellows Program at New England Conservatory has announced the names of the ten musicians—eight women and two men—who will enter the fourth class of its postgraduate program in September 2012. They are Andrea Shegeko Landin, Carlos Roldán, Diogo Pereira, Elaine Chang Sandoval, Elise Seymour, Jessie Berne, Moniqiue Van Willingh, Rachel Hockenberry, Sara Zanussi, and Zóchitl Ysabela Tafoya. Several of the musicians admitted to the new class already have work experience in social-change programs in Ecuador, Chile, South Africa, Guatemala, Tanzania, Brazil, and the U.S. The Sistema Fellows Program (formerly the Abreu Fellows program) is a one-year certificate program intended to prepare young musicians to become leaders in the El Sistema movement in the U.S. and abroad. It combines intensive seminars and field work at El Sistema-inspired organizations in the U.S., followed by a one-month residency in Venezuela, where the El Sistema movement was founded.
