This June and July, pianists Michael Brown and Christopher McKiggan will perform during a the New York leg of a tour of the new Petrushka Project, 70 solo piano pieces inspired by Stravinsky’s Petrushka by a variety of composers. The Petrushka Project, a live concert and commissioning initiative by the German-based Strecker Foundation, also includes performances in London (June 8), Mainz (July 14), and Beijing (June 14). For the free June 19 performance at the Juilliard School, Brown and McKiggan will debut 21 of the new pieces by composers including Robert Beaser, Hans-Jürgen von Bose, Gavin Bryars, Chaya Czernowin, Atsuhiko Gondai, Thomas Larcher, Andrew Norman, Bernard Rands, Howard Shore, Alvin Singleton, Morton Subotnick, Stewart Wallace, and Peteris Vasks. Beginning on July 14, the concerts will be viewable at the Petrushka Project website and at a dedicated “Petrushka Channel” on YouTube.
