Sometimes, the best ideas come from unexpected places. The League of American Orchestras National Conference is not just an opportunity to learn from and strengthen connections with our colleagues, but also to learn from those outside the field as well. To that end, SymphonyNOW spotlights content from two important “out-of-the-box” sessions at the 2012 Conference in Dallas: the opening session, in which representatives from Ford Motor Company and the United Auto Workers, its primary union, discuss how they were able to work together during a tumultuous time; and a general session with innovation guru Jeff DeGraff, a leading consultant with Fortune 500 companies and author of the book Innovation You: Four Steps to Becoming New and Improved.

Also this week a Jacksonville Symphony trombonist’s makes a hip-hop video urging people to come check out the orchestra, and Yair Samet, music director of the San Jose Youth Symphony, comments on the ensemble’s 60 years of existence.

SymphonyNOW is the League’s new, online-only publication, with timely stories about orchestras every week. You’ll find SymphonyNOW on the right-hand side of the Hub homepage.
