The Chicago Symphony Orchestra has appointed J. PHILIP KOESTER vice president for sales and marketing, effective July 16. In this capacity he will be responsible for development and implementation of the orchestra’s strategic marketing plan and will oversee strategies for such brands and initiatives as Symphony Center Presents, the Institute for Learning, Access and Training, and CSO Resound. Koester is currently director of marketing for the Lyric Opera of Chicago, a post he assumed in 2007. He had earlier served as public relations manager at the CSO (1999-2001), as director of marketing and public relations for the Louisville Orchestra, and as marketing director at LA Opera. Koester graduated summa cum laude from Bellarmine University in his native Louisville, and earned a Master of Arts degree from Chicago’s Loyola University.
