The League of American Orchestras has received a three-year $1.5 million grant from the Ann and Gordon Getty Foundation to administer a re-granting program that supports work by orchestras within their communities. Initial orchestra applications are due on August 15, 2012; grants for the first year of the program, ranging from $20,000 to $40,000, will be announced in November 2012. Eligible programs will include in-school programs; afterschool programs that align musical and social goals; health-and-wellness programs; and early-childhood and criminal-justice programs. To receive a grant, orchestras must fulfill a specific need in their community and partner with at least one other community or cultural organization; more information on how League member orchestras may apply for a grant will be posted at the League website by July 15. Orchestras with qualifying programs will be invited to submit a full grant proposal.
