The McLean Orchestra in Northern Virginia has appointed MIRIAM BURNS music director, effective July 1, 2012. Currently music director of Orchestra of the Redeemer at New York City’s Redeemer Presbyterian Church, Burns spent eight years as a cover conductor at the New York Philharmonic, six years as music director of the Tallahassee (Fla.) Symphony Orchestra, and fourteen as music director of the Kenosha (Wis.) Symphony Orchestra, where she was recently named music director emerita. She has guest conducted orchestras across the U.S. as well as in England, Germany, and Taiwan. Burns received her conducting training at Mannes College the New School for Music in New York City, at the Yale School of Music, at Aspen Music Festival and School, and in workshops presented by The Conductors’ Guild.
