The deadline to apply for the Aaron Copland Fund for Music’s 2012-13 round of grants is July 2. Grants go toward general operating support or project support for performing ensembles with a demonstrated commitment to contemporary American music. Projects will be considered that begin between September 2012 and August 2013; multi-year projects will be considered if they begin in the current season, but projects that have already begun generally are not eligible for support. For more information and to apply, visit https://grants.coplandfund.org/performing-ensembles-program. This July, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra is offering orchestras and organizations interested in starting an El Sistema-based program of community music education a three-day Community Engagement Through Music Education summer institute, from July 19 to 2 in Baltimore. The institute will cover curriculum-building activities and teaching techniques and will include working with students during the summer session of OrchKids, the BSO’s year-round after-school music program begun in 2008. The deadline to apply for the summer institute is July 13; more information is available here.
