DIRK MEYER has been named music director of the Duluth Superior (Minn.) Symphony Orchestra, where he will succeed MARKAND THAKAR beginning in the 2013-14 season; Meyer will serve as music director designate in 2012-13.  Chosen from among the five finalists invited to lead the DSSO during its 2011-12 season, Meyer is currently associate conductor of the Sarasota (Fla.) Symphony Orchestra. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in Orchestral Conducting from Michigan State University and a Bachelor of Philosophy from Universitat Duisburg in Essen, Germany.
