The Eugene Symphony in Oregon has announced that it will continue its free Play It Again! adult chamber ensembles program in the 2012-13 season. There are currently 52 participants and thirteen ensembles in the program, which had its inaugural year in 2011-12. In May musicians performed at the Hult Center in Eugene and at a local retirement home. Eugene Symphony Teaching Artists meet with each ensemble at the University of Oregon School of Music & Dance for rehearsals, discussion, and skills-building activities. During the first year of the program, Eugene Symphony musicians giving biweekly coaching sessions included Kristen Halay (principal flute), Sarah Viens (principal trumpet), Lisa McWhorter (assistant concertmaster), Cindi Bartels (second clarinet), Dale Bradley (section cello), and Sophie Therrel and Stephen Chong (section violinists). The orchestra provides instruments for participants as needed. More information on the program is available at the Eugene Symphony website.
