In Saturday’s (6/23) News Journal (Wilmington, Delaware), Margie Fishman writes, “The newly-minted Delaware Symphony Executive Director Lee Williamson resigned her post this week as the cash-strapped symphony begins a three-month operational analysis to chart its future. Williamson, who joined the DSO in March, requested Tuesday that she be released from her two-year contract. The board issued a statement on her resignation Friday, along with announcing that music director David Amado will assume a larger role in fundraising. In an interview Friday, Williamson said she wanted to give the DSO the freedom to redefine the executive director role over the three-month transition, while pursuing her own professional goals. Her resignation is effective July 15. … DSO board vice chair Betty Duncan said Williamson’s decision was entirely voluntary, but would save the organization money in the long run. … Earlier this month, the DSO board voted to suspend the 2012-2013 season, explaining the symphony had exhausted its operational funds. To mitigate losses, the DSO withdrew an estimated $3.7 million from its investment fund over the last seven years, leaving a balance of slightly more than $16,000 in usable reserves.”
