Composer Matthias Pintscher has been awarded the 2012 Roche Commission prize for his Chute d’Étoiles, which will receive its world premiere at this summer’s Lucerne Festival in Switzerland. The Cleveland Orchestra and Music Director Franz Welser-Möst will perform the work, scored for two trumpets and orchestra, at Lucerne on August 25; it will also be performed at Severance Hall in Cleveland and at Carnegie Hall in New York in November 2012. Pintcher’s work represents the sixth commission to be sponsored by Roche Commissions, a partnership established in 2003 between the Swiss biotech company Roche, the Lucerne Festival, the Cleveland Orchestra, and Carnegie Hall. Previous Roche Commission recipients include Toshio Hosokawa, George Benjamin, and Harrison Birtwistle.
