“Rachel Bailey chose to come home,” writes Sally Ann Shurmur in Friday’s (7/13) Star-Tribune (Casper, Wyoming). “After living and working in such places as San Francisco and London, she’s the new executive director of the Wyoming Symphony Orchestra and has no time to ease into the position. In the next 30 days, Bailey and her staff and volunteers will sponsor two major fundraising awareness events—Wine on the River on Aug. 1 and the Wild West Photo Fest on Aug. 11 (with pre-events on Aug. 10). And the symphony’s 63rd season, including some spectacular wows, begins the end of September. … ‘[Former director] Kate Tiernan did a great job the last three years of getting the symphony solid,’ Bailey said. ‘Now, we want to take it up another level and make it sustainable for the future. We appreciate our patrons and donors so much, but the fact is, in order to be sustainable in 40 years, we need to reach out to a younger audience now. We need some young folks to come and be just as enthusiastic as the patrons are who we’ve had for years and years.’ Bailey also wants to continue and strengthen educational programs with schools and community organizations, as well as expand a program new last season that provides symphony tickets for senior citizens and transportation to the concerts and back in partnership with the Reveille Rotary Club.”
