Boston’s Longwood Symphony Orchestra has announced the appointment of conductor and cellist RONALD FELDMAN as music director. He is also music director of the Berkshire Symphony Orchestra in western Massachusetts, has served as music director of the New England Philharmonic and the Worcester (Mass.) Orchestra, and has guest conducted such orchestras as the London Symphony Orchestra, the Boston Pops, the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, the St. Louis Symphony, the Quebec Symphony, and the Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra of Boston. Feldman joined the Boston Symphony Orchestra as a cellist at the age of nineteen and played with that orchestra until 2001. After three consecutive seasons of guest conducting engagements at Symphony Hall and Tanglewood he was named assistant conductor of the Boston Pops. From 1989 to 1993 he served as assistant to Pops Conductor John Williams. Feldman serves on the faculties of New England Conservatory and Boston’s Berklee College of Music, and is artist in residence, lecturer in music, and chamber music coordinator at Williams College.
