Greater Twin Cities Youth Symphonies, based in St. Paul, Minn., has announced the appointment of MARK RUSSELL SMITH as interim artistic advisor to GTCYS and conductor of its senior ensemble, the Symphony. Smith is music director of the Quad City Symphony Orchestra, based in Davenport, Iowa. He has also served as director of new music projects at the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra and artistic director of orchestral studies at the University of Minnesota. From 1999 to 2009 Smith was music director of the Richmond (Va.) Symphony Orchestra.
