The Canton (Ohio) Symphony Orchestra has appointed RACHEL WADDELL assistant conductor and BRITT COOPER director of the Canton Symphony Chorus. During the 2011-12 season Waddell served as music director of the Las Vegas Korean Youth Orchestra and apprentice conductor of the Las Vegas Philharmonic. Previous posts include assistant conductor, Northern Arizona University Symphony Orchestras and Opera; associate conductor, NAU Academy Orchestra; and principal conductor, Greater Hartford (Conn.) Women Composer’s Festival Orchestra and Choir. Waddell received her bachelor’s degree in composition from the Hartt School of Music at the University of Hartford, and a master’s in orchestral conducting from Northern Arizona University. She is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in orchestral conducting at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas. Cooper is director of fine and performing arts and director of choral activities at Canton’s Walsh University.  He holds a master’s degree in choral conducting from the University Alabama and a doctorate in choral conducting from the University of South Carolina.
