Contrabassoonist Andrew Thompson’s hiring has already been announced; the Webster Groves native and St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra alumnus recently completed his master of music degree at the New England Conservatory, and will join the SLSO in September. Violinist Helen Kim, coming off a one-year contract with the SLSO, returns as a full member this fall. … Section viola Di Shi, with degrees from the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing and graduate studies at USC’s Thornton School of Music, will begin his membership in the orchestra with September’s European tour. Principal viola Beth Guterman Chu joins the SLSO in January. A member of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and principal viola in the IRIS Chamber Orchestra, Chu has a long and distinguished resume.”
