The Minnesota Orchestra has chosen seven emerging composers for its twelfth annual Composer Institute in January 2013: Kati Agócs, Eugene Birman, Texu Kim, Loren Loiacono, Evan Meier, Matthew Peterson, and Michael Schachter. The seven, chosen from 165 applicants, will participate from January 7 to 11 in rehearsals, seminars, and tutoring sessions, and a public concert of their works at Ted Mann Concert Hall, with the Minnesota Orchestra led by Music Director Osmo Vänskä. Institute Director Aaron Jay Kernis headed the selection panel, which also included composers Augusta Read Thomas, Kevin Puts, and Sean Shepherd (a 2006 alumnus of the Composer Institute), and Sarah Hicks, the orchestra’s principal conductor of pops and presentations.
