In Thousand Oaks, California, the New West Symphony and iCadenza—an arts consulting company based in Los Angeles—have launched SymphoNet Young Artist Competition for classically trained singers. Each of the contest’s four winners—soprano, alto, tenor, and bass—will receive $2,500, iCadenza career-consulting sessions, and the chance to perform in a future concert with the orchestra. Contestants, who must be between ages 18 and 35, may submit audition videos at YouTube until September 15, 2012. Finalists, to be chosen by a panel of music professionals, including New West Symphony Music Director Marcelo Lehninger, will be announced on October 6. Winners will be announced on November, following the day’s live auditions at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza. The four winners will perform as soprano, alto, tenor, and bass soloists during the orchestra’s performances of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony in May 2013, led by Music Director Marcelo Lehninger.
