The Erie (Pa.) Chamber Orchestra of Gannon University has appointed MATTHEW KRAEMER music director. He is also associate conductor of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, and previously spent three years as associate conductor of the Virginia Symphony Orchestra. Kraemer has also held positions with the Akron Symphony Orchestra and Akron Youth Symphony. As a guest conductor he has appeared with numerous organizations, including the Reno Chamber Orchestra, Virginia Ballet Theatre, Ohio Ballet, and the Atlanta, Baltimore, Canton (Ohio), Cincinnati, Hartford, Indianapolis, Jacksonville, Mississauga (Ont.), Nashville, North Carolina, Spokane, St. Louis, and Virginia symphony orchestras. Recipient of a Herbert von Karajan Conducting Fellowship and a Bruno Walter Career Development Grant, he served a residency with the Vienna Philharmonic at the 2006 Salzburg Festival. Kraemer studied conducting in Vienna with Salvador Mas Conde; at the American Academy of Conducting at Aspen; and at Ottawa’s National Arts Centre. He is a graduate of Butler University and the University of Nebraska.
