Friday’s (8/9) Sangamon Auditorium (Illinois) reports, “Aaron Kaplan is the new music director and conductor of the Sangamon Valley Youth Symphony. Kaplan served as conductor of the youth symphony’s preparatory orchestra during the 2011-12 season. He replaces Glenn Block, who led the youth symphony last year. Block also conducted the youth symphony from 1999-2002. Kaplan is working on a master’s degree in orchestral conducting at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. He earned bachelor’s degrees in cello performance and music education from the U of I. The Sangamon Valley Youth Symphony offers performance opportunities for elementary and secondary school students.”
