A report in Thursday’s (8/16) Ventura County Star states, “The New West Symphony’s 2012-13 concert season begins with a ‘first’ and ends on Beethoven’s Ninth, with Mendelssohn, Gershwin, Kellaway, Mozart and other composers whose names you know well in between. The ‘first’ is the debut of the orchestra’s new music director, Marcelo Lehninger, who says he’s ‘thrilled’ to begin his inaugural season with New West. Appropriately, the first concert program in September has been dubbed a ‘Marcelobration!,’ featuring works by Wagner, Barber and Dvořák, with guest violinist Anne Akiko Meyers playing Barber’s Violin Concerto. The final concert in May will feature Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, with the orchestra joined by the New West Symphony Chorus, Los Robles Master Chorale and winners of New West’s Young Artists Vocal Competition. … In January, the orchestra will present the West Coast premiere of ‘Visions of America: A Photo-Symphony,’ featuring music by Ojai composer-pianist Roger Kellaway and photography by Joseph Sohm.”
