In September, the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, Minnesota Public Radio, and American Composers Forum will co-present the first event in a new Composer Conversation Series to be held this season at MPR’s UBS Forum in Saint Paul. The free series, hosted by Classical MPR program director Daniel Gilliam, will feature live interviews with composers including John Luther Adams (April 16), Laurie Anderson (November 1), Nicola Campogrande (November 13), Shawn Jaeger (May 29), and Maria Schneider, who will open the series on September 28.  Programs in the series are linked to 2012-13 concert programming by the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra and will include audience Q&As and informal pre- and post-show receptions.  One additional composer event in the series will be announced at a later date. “Creating as many opportunities as possible for audiences to engage with composers adds a vital dimension to SPCO’s advocacy of contemporary music,” said Patrick Castillo, the SPCO’s senior director of artistic planning, in a statement. “Having such committed accomplices as MPR and ACF goes a long way towards impressing the value of this art form to as broad a range of listeners as possible.”
