Virginia’s Fairfax Symphony Orchestra has appointed GALEN WIXSON interim executive director through December 2012. He succeeds ELIZABETH B. MURPHY, who was named president and CEO of Leadership Fairfax effective August 27. Wixson is currently executive director of The Guitar Foundation of America. He has held executive director positions with the Austin, Arkansas, and Southeast Texas symphony orchestras, the Reno Philharmonic, the Manhattan Center for the Arts, and the American String Teachers Association. He played cello with the Fairfax Symphony in the mid 1990s.
