A report in Wednesday’s (9/19) Times-News (North Carolina) states, “John Young Shik Concklin has accepted the position of music director and conductor of the Hendersonville Symphony Youth Orchestras. The 2012-13 season marks the 30th anniversary of the Hendersonville Symphony Youth Orchestras. ‘HSYO is poised to make a difference in our community, affecting the lives of our youth in a positive way,’ Concklin said. ‘We aim to not only improve their musicianship, but their citizenry as well.’ He replaces Michael Weaver, who served in the position since 2007. Concklin, a conductor and violist, most recently completed an assistantship at the Cleveland Institute of Music. Prior to that, he served as associate conductor and creative director of the Georgia Symphony Orchestra, where his main duties included conducting and administrating the 400-student youth orchestra program and leading various educational and family concerts. … Concklin received a B.M. in Viola and Piano Performance from Vanderbilt University and M.M. from Yale University in Orchestral Conducting. He has been a fellowship conductor at Aspen Music Festival as well as a teaching assistant at the Brevard Music Center.”
