In Saturday’s (9/15) Tulsa World (Oklahoma), James D. Watts Jr. writes, “When the call came to be a member of the All Stars, Marc Facci didn’t hesitate. ‘I didn’t even ask if there was money involved,’ said Facci, the principal bassist for the Tulsa Symphony Orchestra. ‘It was too great a privilege to be a part of this.’ Facci, who also has served as the orchestra’s music librarian since 1995, spent the last week of August in New York City as part of a project to create a TV series about classical music. The project is the brainchild of Gerard Schwarz, conductor laureate of the Seattle Symphony. Schwarz brought together 95 musicians from orchestras across the country to create what the conductor called the All-Star Orchestra. … But when the shows ultimately air, don’t look for Facci among the All-Star Orchestra bass section. His role in the project was that of music librarian. … The job of music librarian goes far beyond maintaining a collection of orchestral scores. ‘That’s definitely a part of the job, and is where the title probably comes from,’ said Facci. ‘But the bulk of what a librarian does involves getting the scores prepared for the players prior to rehearsal.’ ” Visit SymphonyNOW later in the week for a first-hand account from another musician involved in the All-Star Orchestra.
