The San Diego Youth Symphony has been named grand-prize winner of BoardSource’s Prudential Award of $25,000 for outstanding governance and leadership in advancing a strategic vision. The competition is sponsored by Prudential and The Prudential Foundation and awards a total of $45,000 in prizes to nonprofit boards that exemplify “exceptional governance and demonstrate their ability to drive positive change in the areas of structure, fundraising, or governance.” Earlier this year, a team of judges selected five finalists from 55 applicants from a wide variety of nonprofit organizations; the final round of the competition took place this month during BoardSource’s Leadership Forum in Chicago, with the winner announced following the fifteen-minute presentations and a question-and-answer round by the finalists. The four runners-up were Clarifi; Jewish Family and Career Services of Atlanta; OPAL Community Land Trust; and United Through Reading.
