Wednesday (10/3) on the Birmingham News website (Alabama), Michael Huebner writes, “Two world premieres will take place Tuesday, Oct. 9, on ‘Contemporary Visions,’ the next installment of the Alabama Symphony’s Concertmaster and Friends series. University of Montevallo music professor Joseph Landers will have three of his works performed by pianist Anthony Pattin and ASO musicians. Pattin will accompany violinist Daniel Szasz in his ‘Serenata Quasi Una Notturna,’ and flutist Lisa Wienhold will join the pianist for ‘Some Melodious Sonnet.’ Those three performers will be joined by percussionist Jay Burnham for the premiere of ‘Divertimento a Quattro.’ Samford University composer Sarana Chou will present her ‘Ki-Go’ for violin, flute, piano and percussion for the first time. Also on the program are Ed Robertson’s ‘Saints Fantasy’ for violin and piano and the United States premiere of Romanian-Canadian composer Dora Cojocaru’s ‘Sungate’ for flute, percussion and bird pipes.”
