Four conductors have been chosen to participate in the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s Dudamel Fellowship Program: Mirga Grazinyte-Tyla, Christopher Lees, Dietrich Paredes, and Rafael Payare. Each fellow will work for four to six weeks during the 2012-13 season with LA Phil Music Director Gustavo Dudamel, LA Phil musicians, and students in the orchestra’s education programs, as well as with ensembles and soloists in the Colburn School’s pre-college Academy. Grazinyte-Tyla, a native of Vilnius, Lithuania, was second Kapellmeister of Germany’s Theater Heidelberg for two seasons and is winner of the 2012 Nestle and Salzburg Festival Young Conductors Award. Lees, from Washington, D.C., has conducted numerous American orchestras and was named winner of the 2011 James Conlon Conducting Prize and the 2012 Aspen Conducting Prize; he was also one of six conductors selected for the 2011 Bruno Walter Memorial Foundation National Conductor Preview, hosted by the League of American Orchestras and the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra. Paredes, from Caracas, Venezuela, is chief conductor of the Youth Orchestra of Caracas and currently studies with José Antonio Abreu. Payare, also from Caracas, is winner of the 2012 Malko Conducting Competition in Denmark and participated in the 2012 Tanglewood Music Center Conducting Fellowship Program. The LA Phil’s Dudamel Fellowship Program is currently in its fourth year.
