Seven Juilliard students and alumni have received the first Juilliard School Jonathan Madrigano Entrepreneurship Grants to support original projects during the 2012-13 season. The recipients are Jessica Garanda (alumna, viola), who is using her grant to create an education program for low-income families; ToniMarie Marchioni (alumna, oboe), who is building a social media marketing and training program for artists and organizations; Kristin Olson (alumna, Historical Performance oboe), who is expanding her Baroque oboe reed-making business and offer seminars on reed-making techniques; and Max Woertendyke (current drama student), who  is producing a film about Juilliard drama students in the class of 2015. Also named as recipients are John Brancy (current vocal arts student), Tobias Greenhalgh (current vocal arts student), and Armand Ranjbaran (alumnus, composition), who together are using their grant to start a multipronged project that includes using music to address the issue of bullying and helping symphony orchestras build new audiences at the grassroots level. Grant recipients were chosen through a competitive application process during spring 2012, and receive up to $4,000 to support their projects; they will publicly present their projects at New York University Langone Medical Center during the 2012-13 academic year.
