A memorial for composer Bruce MacCombie will take place on October 22 at 5 p.m. at the Juilliard School’s Rosemary and Meredith Willson Theater. MacCombie, who died in May 2012, served as dean of Juilliard from 1986 to 1992 and as dean of Boston University’s School of the Arts from 1992 to 2000. Juilliard President Joseph W. Polisi will speak at the memorial, along with Juilliard Trustee Kenneth S. Davidson and MacCombie’s longtime friends Leonard Phillips and Anne-Marie Soullière. Works by MacCombie will also be performed, including his reinterpretation of Oscar Peterson’s Hymn to Freedom; Nightshade for solo guitar, with Sharon Isbin; and Light Upon the Turning Leaf, a chamber work featuring flutist Marya Martin, clarinetist Anthony McGill, bassoonist Seth Baer, violinist Colin Jacobsen, violist Misha Amory, cellist Edward Arron, and pianist Shai Wosner.
