“Jeanne Lamon, music director of Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra and Chamber Choir, is leaving her post in 2014,” writes Trish Crawford in Wednesday’s (10/17) Toronto Star. “It was announced Wednesday Lamon will leave after 33 years at the helm of what is considered one of the finest baroque orchestras in the world. Lamon plans to stay on in the role of music director emerita and will continue to work on the creation of the Tafelmusik International Baroque Academy, which would train talented young musicians in period performance.… The orchestra will launch an international search to fill the post, and Lamon has promised to continue with artistic direction and planning until her replacement is found, says [managing director Tricia] Baldwin.… Lamon was born and raised in New York state and attended Brandeis University. She began to specialize in baroque violin in the early 1970s and served as concertmaster in many baroque orchestras in North America and Europe.”
