Mannes College-The New School for Music and the Buffalo Philharmonic have launched a partnership that will give emerging conductors experience working with a professional orchestra. Two current Mannes master’s degree conducting students—Taeyoung Lee and Nimrod Pfeffer—will serve as 2012-13 student conductors-in-residence in the program. Lee and Pfeffer will work directly with Buffalo Philharmonic Music Director JoAnn Falletta and serve as cover conductors for the Buffalo Philharmonic. They will also work with BPO staff and musicians to learn about artistic and management aspects of running the orchestra. “By applying New School founder John Dewey’s philosophy of ‘learning by doing,’ our graduate-level student conductors will gain the unique skills, knowledge, and artistic understanding that can only be learned in the field,” said Mannes College Dean Richard Kessler.
