In Tuesday’s (10/30) San Francisco Chronicle, Joshua Kosman writes, “The San Francisco Symphony, long pinched by the size of its current home in Davies Symphony Hall, has begun exploring options for expanding its site. Representatives of the organization this month approached the board of the War Memorial—which is the landlord for Davies, as well as the Opera House and the Veterans Building—about undertaking a funding feasibility study and cost analysis for such a project. Executive Director Brent Assink confirmed that the Symphony is hoping to make more room for its operations, particularly its education programs, but said that any decisions about specifics were still a long way off. ‘The timing for any project is still up in the air, but we’ve been bursting at the seams since day one,’ he said. Davies Hall opened in 1980. The likeliest scenario would involve building on the site of the parking lot at the corner of Franklin and Grove streets.”
