The deadline is December 15 for young and emerging composers to submit scores for the fourth annual Young Composer Competition of the Albany Symphony Orchestra in New York. Three finalists in the competition will be chosen to join the orchestra in May 2013 for professional development sessions, in-depth collaboration with the orchestra’s current resident composers—Christopher Rouse and Ted Hearne—and the chance to have their works read and rehearsed by the ASO during the orchestra’s American Music Festival. Travel and housing will be provided for the finalists’ trip to Albany in May. The competition, open to composers from anywhere in the U.S., is part of the orchestra’s “Composer to Center Stage” initiative, which includes commissioned works, recordings, community engagement, and work with emerging composers.
