California’s Ojai Music Festival has announced the appointment of ABHIJIT (“Ab”) SENGUPTA as executive director, effective November 26, 2012. He succeeds JEFFREY P. HAYDON, who joined the Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts (Katonah, N.Y.) as chief executive officer on September 17, 2012. Sengupta was most recently artistic director and chief executive officer of Fontana Chamber Arts in Kalamazoo, Mich. Prior to taking up that post in 2008 he served as artistic administrator at Da Camera of Houston. A 2011 participant in the Chief Executive Program administered by Arts Strategies, Sengupta is on the national board of Chamber Music America and was chair of CMA’s 2012 National Conference. Also a prize-winning violist, he appears annually at the Grand Teton Music Festival and has performed with the Houston Symphony and the Spoleto and Norfolk chamber music festivals. Born in Jersey City, N.J., to Indian parents, Sengupta holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Yale University and a master’s in viola performance from the University of Southern California.
