California’s San Luis Obispo Symphony is the recipient of a new van for its education program introducing third- and fourth-graders to orchestra instruments throughout the state’s Central Coast region. The van, donated by Pacific Gas and Electric Company, was unveiled on November 29 during a visit to fourth-grade students at Pacheco Elementary School in San Luis Obispo, in the presence of PS&E representatives, SLO board members, and members of the local media. The orchestra has run the Music Van program since its first school visits in 1984, when it partnered with the Santa Barbara Symphony using a rented van. In 2008, when that partnership ended, donor Claude Hartman donated his 1997 Ford Aerostar for the program, but by last summer it had accumulated more than 200,000 miles and needed to be replaced.
