The Cincinnati Symphony and Pops Orchestra has announced the launch of Music & Wellness, a new partnership with Mercy Health, the Midwest-based healthcare system whose parent company is based in Cincinnati. On December 6, Mercy Health-Anderson Hospital hosted a kickoff event in the hospital atrium, where the CSO Brass Trio performed a holiday program for patients, staff, and visitors. Monthly performances at Mercy Health hospital locations will begin in February 2013. Among the planned components of the partnership are workshops about the relationships between music and wellness, including how musicians can prevent music injuries, and lecture-performances on topics such as the science behind music and medicine. The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and Mercy Health will promote the wellness program and the importance of music appreciation and participation at local health fairs. More information on Music & Wellness is available at cincinnatisymphony.org/musicandwellness.
