In Saturday’s (12/15) Post-Standard (Syracuse, New York), Melinda Johnson writes, “With much fanfare, board members of the Musical Associates of Central New York announced the performing name of the new orchestra is Symphoria on the stage of the Crouse-Hinds Theatre of the John H. Mulroy Civic Center in Syracuse on Friday night. Standing before the musicians and a draped curtain background, Musical Associates board chairman Robert Daino and board member and musician Jon Garland were joined by Onondaga County Executive Joanie Mahoney and Donna Neuhauser, chairwoman of Syracuse Sounds of the Music Association, as the new name was revealed and met with applause from the holiday-concert audience. … After weeks of secrecy about the new orchestra’s name and the decision to not reveal the name until the holiday concert, the Musical Associates’ website posted information about Symphoria on Friday afternoon, hours before the formal announcement at the ‘Holiday Symphonic Spectacular.’ … To commemorate the naming, composer and conductor Sean O’Loughlin created a three-minute piece, also titled ‘Symphoria,’ which the musicians performed as a concert opener. The musician-owned and operated Symphoria becomes the successor to the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra. … The 2,117-seat Crouse-Hinds Theater was nearly filled with concert-goers who were in a festive mood, ready to hear holiday music at the pop concerts.”
