In Illinois, instrumentalists and vocalists may apply to audition for the Peoria Symphony Guild’s annual Young Artists Competition. The application deadline is January 7. Applicants must be no more than 18 years old and live and attend school or pursue a regular schedule of music lessons with a private teacher within a 100-mile radius of Peoria, Illinois. The preliminary and final rounds of the competition take place on February 23 at Illinois Central College Lecture Recital Hall in East Peoria; the final round, at 1 p.m., will be open to the public. The winner will receive $250 to be applied to musical instruction and will perform at a Peoria Symphony Orchestra concert as well as at the Peoria Symphony Guild’s spring luncheon on May 8, 2013.
