The Fairfax Symphony Orchestra in Virginia has announced details of its annual string competition this winter. The deadline is January 28 to apply to enter the 2013 Dorothy Farnham Feuer Memorial String Competition, which is open to advanced string players in grades 7 to 12 from northern Virginia. Preliminary auditions will be held on February 9, and the final competition will take place on May 2 at Providence Presbyterian Church in Fairfax, Virginia. Prizes for winners of the competition will be $1,000 for first place, $750 for second place, and $500 for third place. Winners must use the scholarship money to further their musical training. The competition, established in 1964, was created following the death of founding member and violinist Dorothy Farnham Feuer in tribute to her commitment to music education.
