In Sunday’s (2/3) Plain Dealer (Cleveland), Zachary Lewis writes, “Only nine days into her new job as managing director of the Cleveland Orchestra’s Miami residency, Holly Hudak was understandably nervous about speaking with a reporter. But her vision for the residency, the most recent leg of which wrapped up Saturday, is anything but timid. On the contrary, her goals in South Florida are ambitious, fully in line with the orchestra’s broader strategy for the future. … An educator at heart, and the former chief executive officer of the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras, her sights are set on South Florida’s schools and community centers, where she believes the presence and expertise of world-class musicians stand to do the most good. … Hudak is hardly starting from scratch, of course. After seven years of visiting Miami, the orchestra’s education department already has ties to a long list of area schools and a long list of programs tailored to their needs. But a recent grant of $2 million from the Knight Foundation adds impetus to the mission, enabling the orchestra to consider expanding current programs, organizing new ones and making use of individual players throughout the year.”
