CulturePath, a new collaborative funding and presenting platform for the performing and cultural arts, is inviting orchestras to participate, with the goal of bringing together organizations to co-commission and co-present arts events. Co-founded by Martin Sher and Marcella Prieto, CulturePath is a network that includes membership fees; League of American Orchestra members may subscribe for an initial free six-month period by visiting www.culturepath.com and entering referral code LAO2013. Projects can range from music, dance, and theater events to multidisciplinary collaborations, installations, and interactive programs. Among the composers who have signed on so far are Gabriel Kahane, who is writing WPA Concerto, which has its world premiere in April with the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra; Andrew Norman, who is writing a violin concerto for Jennifer Koh, to be performed by the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra; Julia Wolfe, whose concerto for percussionist Colin Currie, riSE and fLY, was commissioned by the BBC; and Mohammed Fairouz, who is writing Ethnomusicology, to be performed by the Alabama Symphony.
