The Phoenix Symphony has named JOANN FALLETTA principal guest conductor for the 2013-14 season as the orchestra continues its search for a successor to Virginia G. Piper Music Director MICHAEL CHRISTIE. Christie steps down from that post at the end of this season, and was recently honored with the title of music director laureate. He has been named music director of Minnesota Opera effective with the 2013-14 season. Falletta is music director of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and the Virginia Symphony Orchestra; principal conductor of the Ulster Orchestra (Belfast, Northern Ireland); principal guest conductor of the Brevard (N.C.) Music Center; and a frequent guest at podiums throughout the U.S. and in Europe.
