The inaugural Philadelphia Festival of Young Musicians is set to take place on February 18, President’s Day, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., hosted by Gary Steuer, Chief Cultural Officer for the City of Philadelphia. All events take place at the Philadelphia High School for Girls. Among the community music-education organizations scheduled to participate in the festival are the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra; Play On, Philly!; Philadelphia School District; Pennsylvania Girlchoir from Commonwealth Youth Choirs; Musicopia; Philadelphia Boys Choir; Philadelphia Education Fund/ArtsRising; Philadelphia Sinfonia; Settlement Music School; and Temple University Music Preparatory Division. The festival will comprise small- and large-ensemble instruction, with all participating organizations supervising and leading sectional rehearsals. The day will conclude with a free performance by a choir led by Dr. Mitos Andaya and an orchestra led by Domenick Fiore; both groups will join at the end for Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy.” For more information on the festival, visit http://pyos.org/pfym/.
