In Friday’s (3/1) Lima News (Ohio), Kate Malongowski reports, “Lima Symphony Orchestra Executive Director Marie Drum, who’s held the position for seven years, announced at a board meeting Wednesday night she plans to retire. During her time with the orchestra, Drum developed community partnership and outreach programs while increasing music education and establishing successful fundraising events. ‘It was a terribly hard decision,’ she said. … Her last day has not yet been determined, but Drum said she wants to play an active role in finding a replacement. ‘I’m not in any urgency to leave. I would like to see an orderly search,’ she said. ‘I think our orchestra merits a national search by the guidelines of the League of American Orchestras. … When I started seven years ago, my job was a 25-hour-a-week job. It’s nowhere near that anymore. Now it’s really a full-time job. We need to make this an orderly process.’ Symphony board members plan to meet next week to begin discussing plans to find a new executive director.”
