Wednesday (3/6) on the St. Paul Pioneer Press online (Minnesota), Kathy Berdan reports, “The volunteer organization supporting the Minnesota Orchestra has been known by WAMSO since its 1949 start as the “Women’s Association for the Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra.” Even after the Minneapolis Symphony became the Minnesota Orchestra in 1968 and the volunteer group became the Women’s Association for the Minnesota Orchestra, it was still known as WAMSO. But this week, WAMSO is officially gone as the group changed its name to Friends of the Minnesota Orchestra. The 63-year-old organization has been rebranded with ‘an updated image and mission,’ said Friends of the Minnesota Orchestra’s new executive director Cheryle Caplinger. The organization presents music education programs, bringing classical music to children and young adults through such programs as Kinder Konzerts, Kinder Konzerts on the Road and the Young Artist Competition.”
