In Wednesday’s (3/13) Orange County Register (California), Timothy Mangan writes, “The Pacific Symphony announced its 2013-2014 classical concert schedule Monday night. The orchestra’s 35th season again features 12 programs in the Hal and Jeanette Segerstrom Family Foundation series, each performed three times. Music director Carl St.Clair returns for his 24th season with the group, conducting eight of the programs. The season opens on Sept. 26 with a concert featuring teen pianist Conrad Tao, hugely popular in his previous visits here, performing Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3. The season ends in June with performances of Carl Orff’s ‘Carmina Burana,’ featuring the Pacific Chorale. The orchestra will continue with several of its recent projects. As part of its opera initiative, ‘Symphonic Voices,’ St.Clair will lead semi-staged performances of Verdi’s ‘La Traviata’ in February. The ‘Music Unwound’ series, in which the orchestra explores themed programs with in-depth commentary and multimedia, will feature three programs, dedicated to music from Spain, Shostakovich and ‘Carmina Burana.’ … The 13th annual American Composers Festival, in May 2014 and dubbed ‘From Score to Screen,’ will look into the music of film composers Bernard Herrmann, Hans Zimmer and Elliot Goldenthal.”
