It’ll be the end of the Grand Rapids Symphony’s Rising Stars Series, but the start of the orchestra’s search for a new music director to succeed David Lockington after he steps down following the 2014-2015 season. … Grand Rapids Symphony’s five-concert Rising Stars Series, featuring young soloists and emerging composers, [will] now become two separate series. The new ‘Crowe Horwath Great Eras Series’ will have three concerts on Fridays in St. Cecilia Music Center’s Royce Auditorium, each program devoted exclusively to music of the Baroque, Classical and Romantic Eras in music. Meanwhile, the new ‘Crowe Horwath MusicNOW Series’ will welcome composers Bill Hill and Amanda Harberg among others for three programs held on Saturdays in GRBC’s 300-seat Wege Theatre.” Among other guest soloists mentioned in the article are classical guitarist Eliot Fisk for the new MusicNOW Series, as well as pianist Ingrid Fliter and American Idol finalist Matt Giraud.
