On April 5, the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra will hold its first event geared specifically to the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community, a post-concert reception at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark. The Friday Night Out LGBT champagne and dessert reception, with entertainment provided by the Michael Arenella Trio, a jazz ensemble, will be held following that evening’s NJSO’s program of Richard Strauss, Messiaen, and Debussy, led by guest conductor Susanna Mälkki. Ticketholders who are LGBT community members and friends may make reservations for the reception when purchasing tickets. A similar NJSO post-concert event for college students—College Night at the NJSO—brought nearly 200 students to the concert hall on March 1 following the orchestra’s “Pictures at an Exhibition” program at NJPAC.
