The Round Rock (Tex.) Symphony Orchestra, located in Williamson County north of Austin, has appointed STEFAN SANDERS conductor and music director. He succeeds SILAS NATHANIEL HUFF, who founded the orchestra in 2007 and has been named bandmaster and officer-in-charge of the U.S. Army Concert Band in Washington, D.C. Sanders has served as assistant conductor of the Austin Symphony; apprentice conductor at the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra; and music director of the University Orchestra at the University of Texas-Austin, where he received a master’s degree in orchestral conducting and is currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree. As a guest conductor he has appeared with the San Antonio Symphony, the Austin Lyric and Corpus Christi opera companies, and the Bohuslav Martinu Philharmonic in the Czech Republic. Sanders holds a bachelor’s degree in trombone performance from The Juilliard School, and received additional training in conducting as an American Academy of Conducting fellow at Aspen Music Festival and School.
